Bordered on three sides by the Sam Houston National Forest and Lake Conroe, lies the small community of just over 6000 known as Willis, Texas. The city has grown slowly since railroading days and offers several styles of housing, each built during different time periods. From wooded country lanes and properties with sprawling acreage, to new construction in modern subdivisions, there is affordable housing for everyone in Willis.

The area traces its beginnings back to the 1870’s, when the Willis brothers donated land so that the Great Northern Railroad could run a line from Houston to Chicago. Agriculture, lumber and the railroad brought growth to both the economy and population throughout the town’s first half century. When the nearby Lake Conroe was constructed in the 1970’s the population of the area began again to increase, and the town expanded, adding many more homes and neighborhoods. Improvements to highways and the booming growth of nearby Houston, helped Willis to slowly grow into the peaceful community it is today. With its own library, police department and town government, Willis is a self-contained community with much to offer in the way of outdoor recreation and a neighborly feel.

Many of the businesses in town are locally owned, and there are churches of all denominations. Several parks and nearby recreational spots make great spots to spend an afternoon. Nearby Lake Conroe offers boating, camping, fishing, resorts and more. The neighboring Sam Houston National Forest has a myriad of hiking trails that meander through fields of wildflowers and forests of pine and hardwood trees. Camping, as well as trails for equestrian, bicycle and OHV use, are also available in the area. When the need for a night out on the town strikes, Houston and all the amenities of a large metropolis wait a mere 45-minute drive to the south. Quiet charm and convenient proximity to a larger city are among Willis’ many enticements.
