Sarasota, Florida, is a coastal city in the southwestern area of the state. It is well known for its cultural and environmental amenities. The city is dotted with numerous beaches and resorts, and is also home to the Sarasota School of Architecture. Just off the coast and also included in the city limits are many barrier islands, or keys. There are mainly suburban style homes in development, ranging from the more modest two bedroom one bathroom size to large four bedroom units.

There are many different neighborhoods you could potentially move into in Sarasota. The northern part of the city is where you’ll find Gillespie Park, a mixture of redeveloped old homes from the 20’s, ranch-style homes from the 50’s and 60’s, and newer developments. Right by Main Street, Gillespie Park is crowned in the center by a huge park and lake. Indian Beach Sapphire Shores is one of the neighborhoods adjacent to the ocean, and it is conveniently close to New College of Florida and Ringling College of Art and Design. Those looking to be surrounded by water and the tropical environment can move into the south end of the Siesta Key. The northern part of the island, Siesta Village, is more developed and has the feel of city downtown.

Sarasota’s economy is hugely boosted by the bustling tourism industry. Aside from jobs in that industry, other common sources of employment include the Sarasota Memorial Hospital, a regional medical center, and Hospital Corporation of America, the largest for-profit operator of healthcare facilities in the world. Another big employer in Sarasota is L-3 Aviation Recorders. This company manufactures black boxes, a.k.a. flight data recorders. While Zenith Insurance Company has its headquarters in California, it actually employs a large percentage of the workers of Sarasota. Another company with a big presence in the city is Cap Gemini S.A., a multinational management consulting corporation.
