Manchester, New Hampshire, is the largest city in northern New England. Named after Manchester, England, the world’s first industrialized city, the city maintains its founding vision of being a great industrial and economic center. The properties available in Manchester right now are mainly single family homes from two to three bedrooms, as well as similar sized condominiums. There are a few smaller apartments available as well.
There are a number of different residential communities and subdivisions in Manchester, each offering a unique appeal. In the West Side area you will find Notre Dame, a largely French-Canadian neighborhood just below Rimmon Heights. It contains the Catholic Medical Center and the Ste. Marie Church. On the East Side, one of the neighborhoods to check out is Hanover Hill. Offering beautiful views of downtown as well as of the Uncanoonuc Mountains to the west, it is also home to one of Manchester’s signature parks, Derryfield Park. Another neighborhood that has experienced more recent development is Bakersville. The new construction means this neighborhood offers residences for the modern taste as well as for the lover of history-rich properties. A major part of this new development is the recently completed Elliot at River’s Edge Urgent Care Center.
Manchester has a thriving economy and regularly is ranked in lists of best places to live and start a business. Manchester is the home of Segway Inc., who manufactures and distributes the two-wheeled vehicles. Major retail areas in the city employ a lot of people. These include downtown Manchester, South Willow Street, and Second Street, on the West Side. The Mall of New Hampshire on South Willow is one of the largest shopping centers in central New England. Other major landmarks and sources of employment include the Verizon Wireless arena, a major event center that is served by the Radison Hotel and Convention Center Manchester. The arena and the 10-story Citizens Bank building remain prominent in the city’s economy.
