Greenwich is located in southwestern Connecticut, in Fairfield County on the New York Border. The town is unique in that a variety of homes in the 3,000- to 4,000-square foot range are available, and some are even larger. The median home price has been reported at around one million dollars in recent years, but most homes are priced considerably lower or higher than this amount. In addition to single family homes, several condominiums, townhouses and multi-family dwellings are available.

The Riverside neighborhood, bordered by Cos Cob Harbor to the west and Greenwich Cove to the east, is a predominately owner-occupied suburban area with large- to medium-sized single-family houses and larger apartment complexes. Old Greenwich, just across Greenwich Cove from Riverside, is similar in make-up, the main difference being that Old Greenwich has a significantly higher percentage of historic homes, dating from 1939 or before. Old Greenwich is an excellent example of a historic, maritime New England neighborhood. Cos Cob is located just north of Riverside and is an owner-occupied, suburban community with large- to medium-sized single family homes and small apartment buildings. Many of the homes here are historic but built in the 1940s or later. Some homes in this area are quite a bit older, and some are more modern.

The town of Greenwich is the largest employer in the town itself. In 2011, it had 2,366 employees. The second-largest employer in the area is Greenwich Hospital, a teaching hospital and member of the Yale New Haven Health System. The Hyatt Regency and Orograin Bakeries each employ several hundred people in Greenwich. One of the most notable local businesses is Blue Sky Studios, now owned by 20th Century Fox. Blue Sky is the acclaimed animation studio behind films such as Ice Age, Rio and The Peanuts Movie. The studio employed 400 people in 2011, making it the fourth-largest employer in Greenwich.
