Georgia, known as the 'Peach State,' was established as one of the thirteen original colonies. The state was named after King George II of Great Britain. Georgia seceded from the Union in 1861 and was one of the seven original Confederate states. Geographically, Georgia contains a part of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the north and the Piedmont through the central portion of the state. Georgia is the largest state east of the Mississippi River. Homes in Georgia have a unique array of styles, and the majority have four bedrooms.

Atlanta is the capital and largest city in Georgia. The city is also the ninth largest metropolitan area in the country. Atlanta was established in 1837 due to the intersection of two major railroad lines. During the Civil War, the city became a national center of commerce. Today, Atlanta continues to be a primary transportation hub of the Southeastern portion of the country. The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has been the world's busiest airport sine 1998. A great deal of the city was burned during the Civil War and therefore little remains of the historic architecture. Atlanta never truly possessed a uniform southern architectural style because it began as a railroad town, rather than a southern seaport such as Charleston or Savannah

A significant portion of Atlanta's economy depends on corporate operations, as the city possesses the third-largest concentration of Fortune 500 companies in the United States. Atlanta is the global headquarters for major corporations such as Chick-fil-A, Newell-Rubbermaid, AT&T Mobility, The Coca-Cola Company, and The Home Depot. Atlanta also has a large percentage of the country's educated workforce. Another important aspect of the city's economy is media. Ted Turner established both Cable News Network (CNN) and the Turner Broadcasting System (TBS) in Atlanta. In recent years, information technology, publishing, and software development has accounted for a large percentage of the local economy.
